What is WebRTC technology and why should companies be interested in its development?

WebRTC is the abbreviation for Web Real Time Communication and it is considered one of the most disruptive technologies in the telecommunications world. It consists of a collection of protocols that allows the establishment of real time multimedia communications via peer-to-peer connections in a browser. Just opening a web page allows a user to start a communication through calls, video conference, chat systems, sending messages or transferring files. This technology also offers the chance to include these direct communication systems in any application.

Companies need to communicate constantly, both internally and externally with customers, partners and suppliers. WebRTC technology is revolutionising communication in respect to their provision, promotion and cost effectiveness. Companies capable of effectively adopting this technology will find themselves in the position to provide better customer service whilst enhancing the productivity level of their employees.

What impact will this technology have on, for example, VoIP operators, SIP Trunks sales and rentals and SIP phones?

It will have a direct impact on this field since WebRTC technology does not require any SIP phones nor SIP Trunks. Requiring no physical or hardware installation, WebRTC has clear advantages compared to the aforementioned technologies. There are endless possibilities to establish communication through any device, be it a computer, tablet or mobile phone, and from an office, home or anywhere in the world. It enables total flexibility and mobility; your business follows you wherever you go. Without the need to install or rent SIP phones or SIP Trunks, costs are drastically reduced.

In an era when the Bring Your Own Device is being converted into the norm, and where companies need their employees to work not only from home but in different parts of the world, technologies not offering this kind of flexibility will cease to be attractive.

What is Dialoga’s advantage in this market?

With the growth in this kind of technology, there is a fundamental need for cloud operators with their own network in each Country. This is the case of Dialoga, capable of connecting the WebRTC world to the world of traditional telephony. For example, there are Apps that already use WebRTC technology to communicate with each other, but this happens in a significantly limited way, given that both sides must have the same App installed so that communication can take place; something highly unlikely when it comes to making contact with customers or suppliers.

Being an actual operator providing local phone numbers from any country allows us to connect the world of traditional telephony to the world of Apps, thus establishing communication via any device and in any country, without the need for the other person to install a specific App or software.

Dialoga is capable of providing phone numbers and WebRTC technology, taking charge of the entire communications solution from start to finish, without having to rely on third parties for the purchase of telephone equipment or for the rent of expensive installations. We believe that WebRTC will finally give companies the freedom and flexibility that they require in their communications systems.

Following in this line of business in which Dialoga is investing heavily, what are your expectations for the coming year?

We are immersed in a significant technological innovation process that will materialise this year in the launch of new products that will offer businesses the communication solutions they require.

The development and marketing of our WebRTC platform is a project that consists of several stages. We started with the launch of Sword, a WebRTC multiline designed for 1 to 1 communications. Taking this end-user focused product as a starting point, we began a process of verticalization that materialised in two new products, Trident and Hydra. Trident is a sophisticated PBX based on WebRTC, while Hydra is an ACD based on this technology and therefore extremely advanced in its functions. We hope to equip our CloudComms® portfolio with WebRTC technology in the coming months.
